It’s a tough time to be queer in Texas.
You might be a kid figuring out your identity, a parent trying to support them, or a human of any age trying to be true to yourself—while also surviving in a place where any interaction with others feels dangerous, depending on who you interact with and how they perceive you.
Maybe you spend your life in a state of high alert, sizing up every room you walk into and every interaction you have to see if it’s truly safe to be yourself. You’re constantly braced for microaggressions, wondering if you have the energy today to correct that person on your pronouns or if it’s easier to just let it slide and feel a little more invisible. You’ve mastered the art of masking—shifting your tone, your clothes, and your stories to fit into spaces that weren't designed to hold the full, vibrant rainbow of who you are.
You feel like a shadow of yourself, living a double life because the cost of being out feels too high in your community or your family. You might be a queer parent navigating conservative schools just trying to keep your kid safe, or a young adult trying to untangle the "good kid" persona you built from the authentic person you’re becoming. The fatigue of constantly coming out—or the anxiety of deciding when not to—is a weight you carry every single day.
Even more complicated, you might be navigating the intersection of being queer and neurodivergent, or queer and a person of color, where the layers of fitting in feel like a never-ending puzzle with no right answer. It is a constant push and pull of needs: the need to be seen versus the need to be safe. And that doesn’t even get into the religious trauma, the childhood history, or the latest drama in your queer friend group.
Believe or not, it doesn't have to be this way.
Just imagine:
Unearthing your true self beneath the lifetime of code-switching, people-pleasing, and survival strategies to know who you really are, instead of just who you pretend to be to stay safe.
Knowing how to support yourself or your child in difficult situations, when it’s safe to push the limits and when you have to cope to survive until you can find an environment that allows you to be your true self.
Having actual practical strategies to navigate difficult family dynamics, set boundaries in workplace environments that don't "get it," and create a chosen family environment where you can truly thrive.
Relationships with people who really see all of the wonderful facets that make you who you are and celebrate them with you.
Therapy for Queer Folx Can Help
It may feel unimaginable now, but this does not have to be your life. You can change it. You can get back to being your best self again, that is full of life and joy and delight. And I can help you get there.
Therapy for queer folx helps you do 4 things:
Really dig deep into the intricacies of your identity. Because you aren't a stereotype or a checkbox. What does your unique flavor of queerness mean for you, and how does it show up in your day to day life and relationships?
Explore your history and the systems you've lived in. How do your past experiences with family, religion, or society intersect with your gender identity or sexuality, and how are they informing how you live today? Which parts do you keep and which do you let go of?
Develop practical, actionable skills and strategies. We'll work together to increase your sense of felt safety, find ways to support your mental health in a world that can be hostile, and empower you to be your best, most authentic self as much as possible.
Curate the type of relationships you want to have in your friendships and romantic life by defining the things you value, learning to set boundaries, and how to handle it when they are crossed.
I’ll help through this process, tailoring each step to your unique needs and experiences. My approach to therapy for queer folx comes from a place of connection and optimism: knowing that you intuitively know what you need to work through the moment you step foot in the therapy room. Or likely even before, and you just need that safe and supported space to do the work.
