Therapy for Air Traffic Contollers
Therapy for air traffic controllers

People think they get it, but they don't.
“Oh what do you do?” “I'm an air traffic controller.”
You get one of two responses:
Either, “That's so interesting!”, followed by a million follow up questions. Or “WOW that's a stressful job.” What do you say to that? Yes? No? It's mostly hours of mundane canned responses over and over broken up by waves of chaos where you have to do everything perfectly while you hold thousands of lives in your hands? Or rather your headset.
Your every move is tracked so that if something goes wrong they can go back and hear if you fucked something up. The shifts range from ok to middle of the night, or maybe you're even working six days. Sure the pay is good, and the benefits are great. But you miss things. The dance recitals. The soccer games. The holidays. And there's constant pressure. Follow the 7110. Don't mess up. Always be on. No room for weakness. For stress. For vulnerability. For being human.
I get it.
As much as I can anyway, without doing the job myself. I get the pressure. The trauma. The holding it all together all the time because the federal government doesn't look kindly on mental health needs, or they're just about 40 years behind in them, kind of like the tech they use.
I can help. I can be a safe space for processing the stress, the hard shit. The stuff it isn't ok to let out at work, and maybe not even at home. It's completely confidential, doesn't require a diagnosis, and no flight surgeon can get their hands on records unless you give that permission.
Learn how to help stress process through your body so you aren't carrying the weight of the sky home with you after work. Talk about the close calls, the deals, and the unfathomable tragedies so they don't become a part of the fabric of your soul. Be better in life and at work because you are taking care of your brain and body.
You can do this kick ass job that's sometimes boring AF, and be able to thrive in your life today, not sludging through the weeks just counting down to retirement when you can live your best life.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the first session like?
A: At our first session, we will do a holistic intake where I learn more about you as a person and a professional, your history, your relationships, what issues you want to focus on in therapy, and what environmental factors, mental health issues, medical issues, or other struggles may be contributing to your current situation. I’ll also talk more about myself as a therapist, and answer any questions you have, so you can feel sure we are the right fit.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: If you want to use insurance, your cost will vary, since each person’s insurance benefit’s vary. Insurance does require a diagnosis, which might influence your choice for payment. For private pay sessions with Lindsay, each session is $160 per session. Private pay sessions do not create any insurance records, and do not require a diagnosis.
Q: How do I prepare for therapy?
A: You can reflect on what you want to get out of your time in therapy. This is a space to work on whatever is important to YOU. Jotting down some ideas, or just thinking about what you want to be different when you are done with therapy is a good place to start. If you are having trouble nailing it down, that’s ok too, we can navigate defining that together.
Q: How do we get started?
A: We will start with a short phone call to make sure I’m a good fit for what you need, and answer any initial questions you may have, and then we will schedule your first appointment from there.
